(151) Question:- Narrate one incident to show the gentle and soft temperament of Guru Har Rai Ji.
Answer:- One day when Har Rai Ji was returning home after his ride exercise, he saw Guru Hargobind Sahib sitting in the garden. Guru Har Rai Ji got off his horse and rushed towards his grandfather to pay him homage. In this hurry, his robe was caught in a bush and a few flowers were broken from the sterns. It is stated that this pained Har Rai Ji's heart. He sat down on the spot and became sad. The sixth Guru consoled him and advised him that he should be careful while walking as one has to be considerate to all the creations of God. It is one of such incidents that made the sixth Master to name grandson of his as Har Rai Ji and select to succeed him on the spiritual throne.
(152) Question:- Give information regarding the marriage and issue of Guru Har Rai Ji.
Answer:- Guru Har Rai Ji was married to Bibi Sulakhani (some people have recorded the name of Guru's wife as Krishan Kaur), the daughter of Daya Ram of Buland Shehar district of Uttar Pradesh. There were three issues of Guru Har Rai Ji. one daughter named Roop Kaur and two sons namely Ram Rai and Hari Krishan, who later on became the Eighth Guru.
(153) Question:- Did Guru Har Rai JI continue the policy of combining Bhakti with Shakti? If so, what steps were taken by him?
Answer:- Guru Har Rai Ji kept the Stately style which Guru Hargobind Sahib had introduced. He was attended by 2200 armed followers. The Guru himself was a good rider and was trained in the use of arms. However. as there arose no conflict with the ruling power during his period, the Guru concentrated on preaching the Sikh religion.
(154) Question:- Mention the activities of the Guru for the spread of Guru Nanak's teachings?
Answer:- Guru established three important preaching missions called Bakhshishes. The first was that of Bhagavan Gil., renamed Bhagat Bhagavan, who established missionary centers in eastern India. The second was that of Bhai Pheru, who preached in Rajasthan and southern Punjab. The third mission was sent to Kabul. Dhaka and Multan and for this purpose, Bhai Gonda, Bhai Nattha, and Bhai Jodh were sent to these places respectively. The Guru also traveled to certain areas for the said mission.
(155) Question:- Who was Bhai Bhagtu and how was he associated with Guru Har Rai Sahib?
Answer:- Bhai Bhagtu had been a devotee of Guru's house since the time of Guru Arjun Dev JI. He used to live in the Maiwa area but often visited the Guru's headquarters. He was staying with the Guru when he breathed his last. The seventh Master performed his last rites. A good number of persons from Malwa had visited the Guru at that time and they, including Jivan, son of Bhai Bhagtu, made a request to the Guru to visit the Malwa region.
(156) Question:- Who was Chaudhary Kalla? Describe his meeting with the Guru.
Answer:- On the request of the people of the Malwa region, the Guru toured extensively in that area. In the course of his tour, when he reached village Mehraj, a resident of the village named Chaudhary Kalla along with his nephews Phul and Sandhvi met the Guru. When Paul and Sandhvi while standing in front of the Guru started beating their bellies. the Guru asked the reason. Chaudhary Kalla told the Guru that after the death of their father they had become orphans and as there was no means of livelihood, they were afflicted by hunger. The Guru cast his merciful sight on the children and confirmed the blessings earlier bestowed by Guru Hargobind that the successors of these two persons will rule over the area. Later on, three States came to be ruled by the successor of Baba Phul. His elder son Tarlok Singh became the Ruler of Nabha and Jind and the other son became the Ruler of Patiala.
(157) Question:- Who was Dara Shikoh? In what connection did he meet the Guru?
Answer:- Dara Shikoh was the elder son of Shahjahan and the brother of Aurangzeb. He is a pious person who did not want confrontation with Aurangzeb and as such while going to Lahore he met Guru Har Rai Sahib on the way.
(158) Question:- What was the reason for calling Guru liar Rai Sahib to Delhi by Aurangzeb? What did then happen?
Answer:- Aurangzeb was bent upon converting all Hindus to Islam and as such he was not pleased with the increasing popularity of the Sikh Gurus. When some persons jealous of the Guru instigated him that Dara Shikoh had met the Guru for taking his help, Aurangzeb ordered that Sh. Har Rai should visit Delhi. For this purpose, Raja Jai Singh of Amber has entrusted the task of bringing the Guru to Delhi. However, the Guru did not go to Delhi but instead, he sent his elder son Ram Rai as his Minister with the directions that he should remain fearless and reply to the queries in accordance with Sikh tenets. Bhai Behlo was asked to accompany Ram Rai with a copy of the Adi Granth.
(159) Question:- How did Ram Rai behave in Delhi?
Answer:- Shri Ram Rai did not act as was expected from him. Instead, he indulged in miracles with a view to please the Emperor. Further, in order to please the Emperor, he deliberately misread one of the lines from Guru Granth Sahib. The line in Gurbani was;- The clay from a Mussalmaan's grave is kneeded into the potter's hump. It is shaped into vessels and bricks and then burns in the kilin. (Aasa Di Vaar Page 466)
It was changed by Ram Rai, who substituted the word 'Beimaan' i.e. faithless for the word Mussalmaan. This act was sacrilegious and the Sikhs, annoyed with the same, informed the Guru. This conduct of Ram Rai hurt his father Shri Guru Har Rai Sahib. The emperor, on the other land on the banks of a river in hilly area. hand, was pleased and as a reward granted Ram Rai, a Jagir, i.e price of land on the banks of a river in hilly area.
(160) Question:- Who founded the City of Dehradun?
Answer:- When Aurangzeb granted apiece of land on the banks of river Yamuna in the hilly area to Ram Rai, he decided to settle there. It was around this place that the city of Dehradun came into being. Thus, the city is associated with Ram Rai as its founder.
